The Barton Suite
The Clara Barton Suite honors the legacy of the woman who helped the soldiers on the battlefield, including Antietam. She organized supplies–bandages, food, blankets–for the Union armies. At Antietam, she arrived as the battle was raging around and immediately got to work bandaging wounded soldiers. Her work would earn the title of “Angel of the Battlefield.” Miss Barton was a fascinating woman who would set up an office to help locate missing soldiers and eventually establish the American Red Cross. On the battlefield, near the Joseph Poffenberger farm, you can visit the monument to her.
This suite has a queen bed, desk, closet, built-in clothing cupboard, and a private walk-in shower. It is on the second floor and has views of the National Cemetery out its windows.
